Lammers Leads Harriers with Fifth Place Finish at Short Course Race

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Sophomore Isaac Lammers (Eagle River, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) was one of three Alaska men's runners to place in the top 10 as he took fifth place at the Alaska Cross Country Invitational short course race on Saturday morning at West Ridge Trails.
 
Lammers completed the four-kilometer trek in 12 minutes, 55.1 seconds, which was 14.2 seconds off the lead pace of Montana State Billings' Robert Peterson, who won the race in 12:40.9.
 
Senior Max Olex (Aalen, Germany/Business Administration) and sophomore Michael Fehrenbach (Saint Märgen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering) went back-to-back in ninth and 10th, respectively. Olex surged past his teammate down the final stretch to finish with a time of 13:19.7, edging Fehrenbach by less than a second (13:20.6).
 
Other scoring Nanooks included junior Jonas Löffler (Saint Märgen, Germany/Business Administration), who took 14th in 13:32.9 and freshman Nick Lovett (Jackson, Wyo./Mechanical Engineering), was complete the race in 13:48.7, good for 16th. Junior Stefan Hajdukovich (Fairbanks, Alaska/Business Administration) also competed for Alaska, taking 17th in 14:06.0.
 
MSUB once again won as a team on Saturday. After placing the top-five finishers on Thursday, the Yellowjackets took the top four spots to win with 17 points (1,2,3,4,7). Alaska finished with 54 points (5,9,10,14,16), tying Seattle Pacific in the team score (6,8,12,13,15).
 
The Nanooks head to the Kaneohe, Hawai'i, next Saturday, for the Big Wave Invitational, hosted by Division I University of Hawai'i. The women will begin their 5K race at 9:05 a.m. (AKDT) with the men's 5K following.
