Coach Nunes Post-Race Interview
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Freshman
Keegan Rankin (El Paso, Texas/Geological Engineering) led the way in his collegiate debut as he helped the Alaska men's cross country team finish second in the Alaska Cross Country Invitational long-course race Friday evening at the West Ridge Trails on campus.
Rankin completed the eight-kilometer event with a time of 27 minutes, 7.9 seconds, which was 55.1 seconds back of the top finisher,
Robert Peterson of Montana State Billings, who won the race in 26:12.8.
Redshirt sophomore
Ross MacDougall (Astoria, Ore./Foreign Language) was second for Alaska with a time of 27:09.9, to finish ninth overall. Following closely was freshman
Tal Norvell (Douglas, Alaska/Film), who was 11th in 27:11.6.
Rookie
Mitch Burgess (Temecula, Calif./Petroleum Engineering) was the 'Nooks' fourth scorer as he took 12th in 27:32.6 and senior
Tux Seims (Homer, Alaska/Civil Engineering) completed the team's score with a 16th-place showing in 27:48.1. Half a second later, junior
Kenneth Brewer (Chugiak, Alaska/Biological Sciences) crossed the finish line in 17th.
The Yellowjackets took the top five spots and placed seven in the top 10 to win the race with 15 points. MSUB's scorers, aside from Peterson, were
Chase Robinson (26:15.6),
Michael Luhr (26:17.7),
Jamon Rodrigues (26:21.8) and
Thomas Neale (26:37.1)
The Nanooks were second with 56 points (8,9,11,12,16) and the Falcons, led by sixth-place finisher
Wiley Turner (26:54.9), placed third (6,13,14,15,18) as a team.
The harriers will return to action Saturday morning at 10 a.m. (AKDT) for the running of the four-kilometer short-course race.
