LACEY, Wash. – The Alaska men's cross country team put together a complete race as all seven runners placed in the top nine to win the 2013 Saint Martin's University Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning on SMU's campus.

It was the first team win for the Nanooks in four seasons as the Nanooks tallied 22 points (2,3,4,6,7) among the five scoring harriers. The downpour of rain didn't stop Alaska from cruising to the team title as the next closest team was the host Saint Martin's, which had two in the top 10 and 54 points. Seattle Pacific was third (80), followed by Green River Community College (84) and Olympic College (148).

Redshirt sophomore Ross MacDougall (Astoria, Ore./Foreign Language) led the pack with a second-place finish as he completed the eight-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 52.34 seconds, which was just under 22 seconds off the lead pace of SMU's Joe Berger, who won in 26:30.46.

Following closely with MacDougall's pace, junior Kenneth Brewer (Chugiak, Alaska/Biological Sciences) took third in 26:54.65 while senior Tux Seims (Homer, Alaska/Civil Engineering) crossed the line in fourth with a time of 26:58.71.

Soon after Alaska's final two scoring competitors completed the trek as freshman Tal Norvell (Douglas, Alaska/Film) was sixth in 27:15.15 while fellow rookie Keegan Rankin (El Paso, Texas/Geological Engineering) rounded out the team's scoring with a seventh-place showing with a clocked time of 27:17.45.

Also competing for Alaska were freshman Mitch Burgess (Temecula, Calif./Petroleum Engineering) and senior Max Olex (Aalen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering). Burgess finished eighth in 27:27.49 and Olex completed the event in 27:43.13, good for ninth.

Alaska returns to action on Oct. 12, when it competes in the 40th annual Western Cross Country Classic in Bellingham, Wash.
