FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced that it has moved both the date and venue for the 2014 PCSC Championship meet from indoors to a familiar outdoor facility.
Â
The championship was set to take place Feb. 5-8, 2014, at the East Los Angeles College Aquatics Complex in Monterey Park, Calif., but after a call and vote among the PCSC coaches, the decision was made for the conference meet to return to the La Mirada Regional Aquatic Center in La Mirada, Calif., on Feb. 12-15.
Â
East L.A.'s venue was an indoor facility while La Mirada is the outdoor pool the Nanooks and other PCSC members have competed at for the last two conference championships.
Â
Alaska will trek to Southern California in January instead of Flagstaff, Ariz., for its annual training trip during winter break but will also be adding in a few meets against other Californian institutions, including Division I programs. The importance of that trip, now coupled with the venue change of the PCSC meet, is of critical importance according to head coach
Scott Lemley.
Â
"We made the change [from Flagstaff] on the off chance we'd end up outdoors for the third year in row and now we will," Lemley said. "We made the important decision to go from altitude down to sea level to be outside."
Â
Additionally, the Nanooks have one tri-meet venue change during their trip to California. On Jan. 3, 2014, Alaska's meet against DI foes Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount was supposed to take place in Malibu on Pepperdine's campus and has been moved to Los Angeles at LMU.
