FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Head coach
Scott Jerome announced the Alaska men's skiing program has signed
Nick Lovett (Jackson, Wyo.) to a National Letter of Intent and he will join the team this fall with four years of athletic eligibility.
Lovett, of Jackson Hole Community School in Wyoming, was the 2011-12 Wyoming state champion for high school skiing. He helped Jackson Hole to three straight state titles (2010-12) by scoring points for the squad on all three runs. Lovell also placed fourth at the Soldier Hallow Super qualifier and was 14th at the SuperTour Owl Creek Chase.
A dual-sport athlete, he also played eight years of soccer at the center defense position. Upon enrolling next semester, Lovett plans to major in engineering.
“Nick possesses a dedication to skiing which is so important for college athletics,” Jerome said. “By taking a gap year before entering UAF, Nick developed both his fitness level and his technique. He is a strong addition to our men's roster. I think he will find very good training partners from our roster who will push him to become even better.”
Jerome continued, “Nick plans to study engineering. He will be in good company as about half our team seems to be engineering majors right now. We are pleased that Nick chose to travel north from Wyoming to study and compete for the Nanooks.”
Lovett becomes the first men's skier to sign with Alaska and fifth overall skier to sign an NLI with the Nanooks, joining the women's incoming class consisting of
Amelia Anderson (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline),
Nichole Bathe (Madison, Wisc./Verona Area),
Madalyn Pfeifer (Andover, N.H./Proctor Academy) and
Hannah Stevens (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River).
