Tim Sherry Earns Era Alaska Nanook of the Week Award

FAIRBANKS – Sophomore shooter Tim Sherry (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mechanical Engineering) of the Alaska rifle program has been named the Era Alaska Nanook of the Week for the week ending Nov. 24, as selected by the Alaska media relations office.
 
Sherry helped the second-ranked Nanooks to a pair of dual-match victories against No. 1 Kentucky Saturday and Sunday at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
 
On Saturday, Alaska set a new program record for team score with a 4702, winning by 31 points. The following day, the 'Nooks shot the second-highest team total ever in a narrow 4695-4689 victory over the Wildcats.
 
Over the two days, Sherry led the Nanooks twice in smallbore and once in air rifle. He put together a 588 in smallbore Saturday before firing a 590 on Sunday, which is tied for the second-highest score shot this year in the NCAA
 
In air gun, he had a 591 on day one before topping all shooters with a 595 Sunday, which tied his career-best total and ranks tied for third in the country.
 
The Nanooks return to competitive action on Jan. 9, 2014, when they trek to Colorado to take on the United State Air Force Academy.

Every week of competition during the 2013-14 athletic year, there will be an Era Alaska Nanook of the Week announced. This week, women's basketball hosts the 2013 Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational (Nov. 28-30), men's basketball competes in the Ayres Inn & Suites CBU Invitational in Riverside, Calif. (Nov. 29-30), and hockey hosts Michigan Tech in a WCHA series at the Carlson Center (Nov. 29-30).
