Ronnie Baker Named Era Alaska Nanook of the Week

FAIRBANKS – Senior guard Ronnie Baker (Vallejo, Calif./Communication) of the men's basketball team has been named the Era Alaska Nanook of the Week for the week ending Nov. 17, as selected by the Alaska media relations office.
 
Baker was named to the AT&T Jamboree All-Tournament Team last weekend after averaging 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, leading to the program's split down in Anchorage.
 
He scored 15 points with a pair of rebounds and assists in Friday's 72-63 defeat to Regis in the season opener but came back the next day and dropped a game-high 20 points, to go with six rebounds and four assists, in Alaska's 72-48 beating of Holy Names.
 
For the week, he shot 46 percent (11-24 FG) from the floor and hit three of six three-point attempts while draining 83 percent (10-12 FT) from the free throw line.
 
The Nanooks (1-1) open up their home slate this week when they host the 2013 GCI Alaska Invitational, Nov. 21-23, at the Patty Center. Joining Alaska in the three-day, four-team event are Emporia State (Kan.), Fresno Pacific and Mary (N.D.).
 
Baker is the third Nanook of the Week selection, joining swimming freshman Victoria Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Accounting) and freshman center Joey Davies (Demorestville, Ontario/Business Administration on the list.
 
Every week of competition during the 2013-14 athletic year, there will be an Era Alaska Nanook of the Week announced. This week, men's basketball opens its regular season in Anchorage, women's basketball plays four games in Hawai'i and volleyball plays its final two home games of the year.
