FAIRBANKS, Alaska
– Freshman Kathryn Pound (Pahiatua, New Zealand/Business Administration) was a three-time winner Friday for Alaska and freshman Victoria Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Accounting) set her second pool record in as many meets, but the Loyola Marymount Lions won six events and set two pool records of their own to hand the Nanooks their first dual meet loss of the season, 123-82.

Pound won the 1,000 freestyle in 10 minutes, 40.30 seconds – a 10-second victory over a pack of three Loyola Marymount (1-0) swimmers. She later won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:12.99, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the same pack of three Lions finishers  to sweep the middle distance freestyle events.

Pound also swam the opening leg for the Nanooks' (2-1) winning 200 freestyle relay. The quartet, which included Adams, junior Gabi Summers (Cheyenne, Wyo./Foreign Language) and junior Danielle Lyons (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan/Biological Sciences) – clipped the Lions by .17 seconds, winning in 1:40.80.

Adams broke the two-year-old Patty Center Pool record in the 200 backstroke, winning in 2:04.56 to make her a two-time winner in the meet. The previous record of 2:06.32 was held by Fresno Pacific's Cheyenne Coffmann.

A total of three pool records were broke on Friday. The Lions' Rachel Dekar set a new pool record in the 100 breaststroke by one second, winning in 1:06.65 to beat the two-year-old mark of 1:07.83 by Fresno Pacific's Kendall Swanson in 2011. Loyola Marymount's Kristen Clarno had the Lions' other pool record, winning the 400 individual medley in 4:35.79 to beat former Nanook Mariya Pavlovskaya's three-year-old mark of 4:36.05.

Senior Bente Heller (Hamburg, Germany/Psychology) won the 100 freestyle in 52.75 and was runner-up in the 50 freestyle, getting out-touched by just one-tenth of a second by LMU's Kjirsten Magnuson, 24.39 to 24.49.

The two teams will face each other again at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in another dual meet at the Patty Center Pool. Fans can listen to and watch the meet live on the alaskananooks.com Stretch Internet channel by clicking here. Live results for the meet are also available by clicking here.
