BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Redshirt sophomore
Ross MacDougall (Astoria, Ore./Foreign Language) and senior
Tux Seims (Homer, Alaska/Civil Engineering) turned Alaska's top two times as the men's cross country program finished seventh at the 40th annual Western Cross Country Classic Saturday morning at East Lake Padden Park.
For the second straight outing, MacDougall registered the Nanooks' best time as he completed the 10-kilometer course in 33 minutes, 26 seconds to take 39th place (25th scoring) in the 109-man field. Seims finished right beside him in 40th (26th scoring) with a time of 33:27.
Rookie
Keegan Rankin (El Paso, Texas/Geological Engineering) cross the line in 55th (35th scoring) with his time of 34:07 while fellow freshman
Mitch Burgess (Temecula, Calif./Petroleum Engineering) took 65th (40th) in 34:39.
Rounding out the Nanooks' scoring was junior
Kenneth Brewer (Chugiak, Alaska/Biological Sciences) who was 70th (42nd scoring) in 34:55. Two others also ran for Alaska as freshman
Tal Norvell (Douglas, Alaska/Film) placed 74th in 35:10 and sophomore
Isaac Lammers (Eagle River, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) finished in 81st place after clocking a time of 35:45.
The Nanooks accrued 168 points (25, 26, 35,40,42) to finish in seventh out of eight squads. Host Western Washington won the meet after taking the top five spots for a perfect 15 points. Central Washington was fourth with 132 points and Simon Fraser followed in fifth with 134 points.
Next up for the Nanooks is the 2013 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship, which will be held Oct. 26 at the Ash Creek Preserve in Monmouth, Ore.
