FAIRBANKS, Alaska
– The Alaska rifle program, ranked third in the latest College Rifle Coaches Association poll, opens the regular season this weekend with a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in No. 14 Ole Miss and No. 16 North Carolina State.

On Friday, Oct. 11, the Rebels and Wolfpack will go head-to-head in a neutral-site match. On Saturday, the Nanooks shoot against NCSU and round out the weekend Sunday versus Ole Miss. All three matches run all day and begin at 9 a.m. from the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.

Last time out, the Nanooks downed the Alumni 4683-4594 in their first match of the year. That mark would have won the NCAA Championship last March.

Senior Mike Liuzza (New Orleans, La./Business Administration) and junior Ryan Anderson (Great Falls, Va./Biological Sciences) both registered a 592 in air rifle while sophomore Tim Sherry (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mechanical Engineering) paced the team with a 584 in smallbore.

Last season, the Nanooks faced off with both N.C. State. In a neutral-site match on Oct. 6, 2012, Alaska downed the 'Pack 4622-4599. Two seasons ago, the Rebels snuck by the Nanooks 4648-4645 in the 2011 opener in Oxford, Miss.

This will be the first time either program has ever shot a match in Fairbanks.

Live stats will be available for all three matches.
