FAIRBANKS, Alaska
- The No. 4 Alaska Nanooks play host to the No. 2 West Virginia Mountaineers this Friday and Saturday for a pair of NCAA Men's and Women's Rifle matches at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range located on the ground floor of the Patty Center.

Here are the need to know notes about this weekend's matches and Alaska Rifle:
  • The Alaska Nanooks host their second and third home matches of the season, welcoming the second-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers to Fairbanks and the E.F. Horton Rifle Range for the first time in program history.
  • The Blue and Gold, who finished third at the 2012 NCAA Men's and Women's Rifle Championships, are currently ranked fourth in the country. Defending Champion Texas Christian is ranked first, while WVU is second and Kentucky is third.
  • The teams have a combined 24 NCAA Championship titles between them with WVU boasting 14 and the Nanooks 10.
  • The Nanooks and Mountaineers have met 12 times for head-to-head matches and the teams are even at 6-6. The teams met for the first time in 1989, when WVU beat Alaska. The Mountaineers won the second meeting in 1991 as well, before the Nanooks won six consecutive matches between 1994-2008. Since beating WVU 4626-4653 in the second half of the 2007-08 season, Alaska has lost five straight matches against the Mountaineers.
  • The Nanooks will look to improve on their 2-1 season record. They've shown steady signs of improvement since the start of the season and fired their season high team aggregate of 4,664 in their home victory over Texas El Paso on Nov. 3.
  • The Alaska Nanooks are participating in a special Military Appreciation initiative at all of their events between November 10-18. The rifle teams' air rifle final against WVU on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. in the Patty Center Gymnasium is the final event of the weekend.
  • The Alaska Nanooks will host a live video webcast of Sunday's fan and spectator friendly air rifle final that is slated to begin at 6 p.m. AKT (10 p.m. EST) and will be held upstairs in the Patty Center Gymnasium.
  • Following their home matches this weekend the Nanooks are idle until the New Year. They open the 2013 portion of their schedule on the road at Murray State (KY) on Jan. 10. They will continue their road trek with a match against the Kentucky Wildcats on Jan. 13 before returning to Fairbanks to host the TCU Horned Frogs on Jan. 19 and 21 at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
