FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The fifth-ranked Alaska Nanooks rifle team will host the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers for their NCAA Sectional qualifying match on Saturday, February 12 at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
Originally the teams were slated to shoot the smallbore relays in the Nanooks home range on Saturday and the air rifle relays upstairs in the Patty Center gymnasium on Sunday. However, changes in the Engineers' travel scheduled called for combining all events into a single day.
The Engineers enter the weekend match-up ranking 22
nd in the national rankings and averaging an aggregate score of 4,371 on the year. Their season-high score of 4,410 was shot against Murray State on Jan. 28. Sunday afternoon, they almost equaled that mark with a 4,408 against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
For the year, the Blue and Gold are 6-3 in collegiate matches and averaging an aggregate team score of 4,654 per match. The fired a season-high of 4,667 on Oct. 24 against Tennessee-Martin and are looking to snap a two-match losing streak on Saturday to build momentum heading into the NCAA Championships next month.
