CALIFORNIA, PA - The Alaska Nanooks swim team took to the pool for the second time in as many days and lost a heartbreaker to California Univeristy of Pennsylvania 104-96 on Tuesday afternoon in California, PA. The Nanooks took six first place victories and five-second place finishes in the contest but could not come out with the victory.
Heidi Tilicki (Junction City, OR) opened up the winning ways for the Nanooks by taking first place in the 1000-yard freestyle winning by over seven seconds over Megan Schuh of Cal (PA). Trailing 44-27,
Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia) and
Courtney Nichols (Columbia,SC) took first and second place in the 200-yard IM to close the gap to only 10 points, 50-40.
Felina Rosadiuk (Fairbanks, AK) went on to win the 100-yard freestyle by two seconds (53.55 seconds) and Pavlovskaya (1:02.65) and
Meghan O'Leary (Seward, AK) (1:03.67) took first and second place in the 100-yard backstroke to put the Nanooks in position to take the lead late in the day.
After a wins by
Kinsey Laine (Silver Lake, WA) in the 500-yard freestyle, and Nicholas in the 100-yard breaststroke, Alaska took a 94-89 lead into the final event. However, Cal (PA) took first and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay to capture victory, 104-96.
Alaska will travel to Seattle, WA to take on Seattle University at 1:00 p.m. AST on Wednesday afternoon.
