Nanook Travel Blog: Alaska runners hydrate in pre-race preparation

The Nanooks runners used Friday to charge their batteries before the Hawaii Invitational race on Oahu (Saturday). Both skiers and runners have had a couple of weeks with hard tests and training, and Friday was therefore a good day to think about something else than heart rate and nutrition. This of course was after an hour run in the morning!

After breakfast, the crew spread out (on the island) for a couple of different activities. Some of the runners and Coach (Scott) Jerome went snorkling in the bay, while others rather wanted to surf on the big waves that hit the island or hike in the hills surrounding Honolulu.

During the day, we focused on hydrating ourselves by drinking lots and lots of water. It looks like it will be pretty hot tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon when we are racing, and drinking lots of water before the race is important. Now we are looking forward to seeing how the Nanooks will do against the Hawaiian universities.

Alaska faces some West Region foes at the Hawaii Pacific Invitational on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. Alaska Time. Check alaskananooks.com Saturday evening for a complete race recap and results.
