Hyatt Three-Peats As Alaska's CCHA Scholar-Athlete

FAIRBANKS, AK - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Tuesday that senior left wing Trevor Hyatt one of twelve outstanding student-athletes designated as their team's 2008-09 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. For Hyatt it is his third consecutive honor as the program’s nominee for the CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be chosen from among the group of nominees with the winner announced at the 2009 CCHA Awards, presented by RBC Financial Group on Thursday, March 19.

A civil engineering major, the Anchorage native has a perfect 4.00 out of 4.00 grade-point average. Hyatt has appeared in 28 games this season, bringing his career total to 110.

In addition to his relentless work ethic and dedication on the ice, the fourth-year Nanook has duly applied himself in an unwavering fashion in the classroom: a quality that has not gone unnoticed by his coaches, professors and peers.

This fall he was honored with a Rhodes Scholar nomination and repeated as a nominee for the Hockey Humanitarian Award. He is one of ten finalists for the 2009 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award currently.

He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the National Engineering Honor Society, Chi Epsilon, the National Civil Engineering Honor Society, the American Society of Civil Engineers, is a University of Alaska Scholar and a Chancellor's Gold Scholar. As a sophomore, he was named UAF's Sophomore Engineering Student of the Year.

The faculty athletic representative at each school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school's nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive the school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by the 12 faculty representatives. Voting is based on a system that awards five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.

The 2009 CCHA Awards will be held on Thursday, March 19 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $15. The evening begins with a social hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation of awards at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by mailing a check or money order to: CCHA, 23995 Freeway Park Dr., Farmington Hills, MI 48335.
