Fairbanks, AK - Western Washington proved too strong for the short handed Nanooks on Saturday evening at the Patty Center in the first game of a Think Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness double-header, running away with an 81-48 victory.
Alaska, with only three original basketball players on their roster from the beginning of the season, found offense hard to come by today. Only senior Sheena Brown, and junior Ronisha Edwards found their way into the scoring column in the first half as they combined for all 16 points.
Edwards ended the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds, but the Vikings up tempo offense was too much for the Blue and Gold. 10 WWU players scored, and four Vikings reached double figures, led by guard Marelle Moehrie with 15.
The effort was there, but injuries have destroyed the Blue and Gold this year. Seven injured Nanooks looked on as four new members to the roster rotated into the game to round out their line-up.
Alaska remains winless in the GNAC at 0-11 and falls to 5-15 overall. Their next game is on the road at Northwest Nazarene on Thursday night.
