Cable, WI – Theresia Schnurr paced the women at the Telemark SuperTour while Oyvind Watterdal led the men on Saturday afternoon in Cable, WI at the Telemark Resort.

Schnurr, a freshman from Germany, finished the women’s 5K classic in 10th position overall and more importantly she finished second in the college standings with a time 17:46.1. Schnurr only finished behind Laura Dewitt of Northern Michigan at the collegiate level.

Julia Pierson finished in 21st overall and 8th in the college standing at a time of 18:46.2.

Head Coach Scott Jerome was searching for answers, however, of why his team couldn’t find their legs on day one of the SuperTour. “I think people are just tired,” Jerome said. “We did a lot of training after nationals, and that must have been the reason.”

Watterdal was the first to cross the line for the Alaska men in 21st place and 5th at the collegiate level with a time of 31:38.2 in the men’s classic 10K race. He was followed by junior Ray Sabo in 24th overall position and 7th for collegiate skiers.

Jerome and the Nanook skiers will look to improve on Saturday’s results when they strap the skis on for Sunday’s competition. This, the second NCAA qualifier for Alaska, is vital for the Nanook skiers if they wish to make it Rumford, ME for the Skiing National Championships March 11-14.
