LONG BEACH, CA - The Alaska Nanooks will return to the pool on Thursday morning to take part in the Toshiba Classic, hosted by UC San Diego. The Nanooks will compete against 23 other NCAA women's swimming team's, which includes last year's defending National Champions, California.
Alaska joins six other PCSC schools that will be at Long Beach, California which include Cal Baptist, Chapman, Soka, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine and UC San Diego.

Scott Lemley feels that this could be the fastest meet of the season. “This will be the fastest version of this classic in the five years that we have been participating,” said Lemley. And because of the reshuffling of other local meets this has become the fall showcase invitational for some very fast teams.”
The Nanooks have several swimmers that have impressive seeding times. In some events as many as 200 athletes will compete. Junior
Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia) found herself in the top 20 of the psych sheet in the 400 yard-IM, 200-yard back and 200-yard IM.
Courtney Nichols (Columbia,SC) is seeded 25th in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 400-yard IM and
Felina Rosadiuk (Fairbanks, AK) was 35th in the 100-yard freestyle and 40th in the 50-yard freestyle.
The classic will be a platform for swimmers who hope to qualify for NCAA individual championships. Last season Alaska qualified four of their eventual six swimmers for the NCAA's at this event.
The meet will run its preliminaries at 9:00 AM daily for the Men, followed by the "A" flight of Women (approx. 11:30 AM) and then the "B" flight. Women's finals will begin nightly at 6:00 PM, with 4 heats of every event.
