Nannoks bring home first swim victory

- The Alaska Nanooks went to the pool to battle California (PA) on Friday and brought home an impressive 108-95 victory. The Nanooks brought home victories in seven of the 11 events to record their first victory of the season.
 
Kinsey Laine (Silver Lake, WA) picked up a win in the second event, the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:26:68 which beat out teammate Heidi Tilicki (Junction City, OR) who swam a time of 18:47.66. Lane also would pick up a third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:20.27.
 
Kelly Becker (Tualatin, OR) took home wins in two events (200-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle) and also placed third in the 500 yard freestyle. In the 200-yard butterfly Becker beat out California's Bruna Carvalho by only .14 seconds after trailing for much of the match. Becker also brought home an impressive, down to the wire, victory in the 200-yard freestyle by .62 seconds over Alaska swimmer Courtney Nichols (Columbia,SC).
 
Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia) took home a win in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:38.56 and left the competition in the dust, winning by over 17 seconds. Pavlovskaya also took home first place in the 200-yard breaststroke defeating teammate Courtney Miller (Vancouver, WA) by over 10 seconds.
 
Meghan O'Leary (Seward, AK) and Felina Rosadiuk (Fairbanks, AK) also brought home victories in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle, respectively. O'Leary won with a time of 2:17.52 and Rosadiuk came home a winner in 53.95 seconds. Rosadiuk also took home second place in the 50-yard freestyle finishing behind Melissa Gates of Cal (PA) who set a new pool record with a time of 24.23 seconds.
 
The Nanooks will return to the pool on Saturday morning when they will complete their dual meet with California (PA). The match is set to start at 12 PM.
