Day 1 Race Results
Anchorage, AK – John Parry led the way for the men and Theresia Schnurr led the charge on the women’s side in the UAA Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Anchorage.
Parry crossed the finish line of the men’s college race 15K mass start in 35 position overall with a time of 44:39.6, just 2:47 off the pace of the first place finished, Jesper Oestensen of the University of Colorado.
Einar Often finished just two spots and five seconds behind parry in 37th position. Ray Sabo was the third Nanook skier to finish with a time of 46:01.4 and Alex Morris finished fourth for Alaska in 56th position at 46:20.6.
Schnurr was the top female skier in the women’s 10K for Alaska and finished in 29th overall while posting a time of 36:10.2.
Elisabeth Habermann was the second Blue and Gold skier to finish in 38th position with a time of 36:43.0 followed by Anna Coulter in 43rd at 37:14.7.
The men and women will race again tomorrow in the second leg of the UAA invitational. The races are scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m.
Day Two Race Results
Anchorage, AK – Anna Coulter proved that she is one of the top collegiate skiers in the country on Sunday afternoon as she skied to a top finish on day two of the UAA Invitational.
Coulter finished the women’s 10K freestyle mass start in ninth place overall with a time of 33:03.6. She was only off the pace of the first place finisher, Jamie Bronga of UAA, by 40.1 seconds.
Second to cross the finish line for Alaska was Theresia Schnurr at 33:46.1, which was good for a 17th place finish overall. Coulter and Schnurr flip-flopped on Sunday as Schnurr was the first woman across the line for Alaska on Saturday and Coulter was second. Saturday’s races were classic style skiing while Sunday was freestyle skiing.
Elisabeth Habermann finished the in 24th overall at 34:04.5 while the Nanooks’ newest skier, Sarah Bergergon-Larouche, finished in 38th with a time of 36:23.3.
The men were once again paced by John Parry as he crossed the line first for Alaska, as he did on Saturday. Parry’s times in the 15K freestyle of 42:59.0 was good for a 31st place finish overall.
Ray Sabo followed in 47th position posting a time of 43:45.4 while Einar Often crossed the line seven spots behind in 54th place at 44:33.5.
“It was a tough week with all the delays,” Head Coach Scott Jerome said. “We had some good performances, but we didn’t have that one day where we put it all together.”
The Nanooks participated in the U.S. Short Distance Nationals Championships that took place throughout the week in Anchorage; however, the meet was canceled four of the six days it was supposed to run because of weather.
Alaska now departs for Cable, WI at the end of the month to compete in the Telemark SuperTour. Those races are scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
