BILLINGS, MT – The Alaska Nanooks got their conference schedule off to a good start Thursday night, earning their first road victory of the season by topping the Montana State-Billings Yellowjackets, 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21).
The Nanooks (4-2, 1-0 GNAC) were led by senior middle blocker Korlyn Bolster, who had 13 kills, three blocks, and hit a .296 clip. Juniors Megan Thigpen and Jessica Hill also reached double-figure kills, adding 13 and 10, respectively.
Nanook setter Alexa Sherman dished out 36 assists and libero Hannah Armstrong led the backcourt with seven digs.
For MSUB (1-8), Devon Crotteau had 15 kills, 11 digs and hit .345, Jennifer Boe had 11 kills, 13 digs and hit .333 while Jill Trabing had 10 digs.
The Blue and Gold continue their stay in Billings, Friday, with its first two matches of the MSUB Invitational. Alaska faces undefeated Northern State (4-0) at 9 a.m. AKT and Hawaii-Hilo, who the Nanooks topped twice last season, in an afternoon matinee at 1 pm. AKT at Alterowitz Gym.
