Extreme conditions are to be expected in the sport of skiing, but in Fairbanks, Alaska - just 100 miles from the Arctic Circle - the extreme can be a bit more challenging.
For University of Alaska Fairbanks senior Marius Korthauer, who grew up in Bonndorf, Germany, the state nicknamed "The Last Frontier" seemed a world away.
