SEATTLE, WA - The Alaska Nanooks rallied from a one-set deficit and came from behind in the next three sets to top their hosts, the Seattle Pacific Falcons Saturday night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action. The Blue and Gold prevailed by scores of 21-25, 26-24, 26-24, and 28-26 to earn the season sweep against the Falcons.
Alaska (14-6, 8-3 GNAC) trailed 22-24 in the second game, 18-23 and 22-24 in the third, then 14-21 in the fourth.
The Nanooks were led by a double-double from junior outside hitter Megan Thigpen with 17 kills and 23 digs. Senior middle Korlyn Bolster was second on the team with 13 kills and setter Alexa Sherman had 43 assists. Bolster also had a team-high six blocks.
SPU junior Nikki Finley and junior Robin De Jong each came up with a double-double for Seattle Pacific. Finley had 14 kills and 11 digs. De Jong pounded 11 kills and factored into 10 blocks. Sophomore Sarah Risser also hammered 14 kills for the Falcons, while SPU libero Anna Herold recorded a match-high 37 digs.
Alaska built an early lead in Game 1, but the Falcons got back on top at 9-8, and never trailed again on the way to the 25-21 win.
With 55 kills for the match, Alaska hit .156 as a team. Seattle Pacific, which had 51 kills for the match, hit .112.
The Nanooks return to the Patty Center on Thursday (Oct. 30) at 7 p.m. against conference leader Western Oregon and Saturday (Nov. 1) against Saint Martin's.
