FAIRBANKS, AK- Alaska once again saw two previous points slip from their grasp, as Nebraska-Omaha got a late winner for the second straight night to snatch an important 4-3 overtime victory. The Mavericks' Juha Uotila got the gamewinner, his shot just trickling over the line to finish off a clinical counterattack after Adam Naglich had seen his shot from the high slot turned away by UNO goaltender Jerad Kaufmann.
Alaska's Jeff Penner had forced the extra sesson, slotting a first-time shot from Ryan Hohl's centering pass into the UNO net to pull the Nanooks level with just 3:21 left to play.
Captain T.J. Campbell had opened the scoring for Alaska, getting his first goal of the season in the first period before UNO struck back through Brandon Scero and Dan Charleston to take a 2-1 advantage.
Nathan Lawrence levelled the scores halfway through the second on an assist from Derek Klassen, but a shorthanded goal from Ed DelGrosso pushed the Mavericks back in front until Penner's heroics late in the third.
