SEATTLE, WA- A valiant second half fightback from the Nanooks came up short against the nation's No. 6 ranked team, as Seattle Pacific topped Alaska, 68-60. The Falcons seemed to be on course for an easy victory as they soared out to a 20-point halftime lead, but the Nanooks clawed their way back, trimming the lead to just five points. Sheena Brown scored 19 points in the second half alone, nearly single-handedly bringing the Blue and Gold back into the game, before running out of time at the Royal Brougham Pavilion.
The loss drops the Nanooks to a 7-4 mark in the season, while they continue to wait for their first win in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play (0-3). Seattle Pacific remains undefeated at a perfect 12-0, 3-0 in the conference.
Alaska got 23 points (two short of her career high) from Brown, who helped jump-start the Nanook comeback, scoring four quick points just before halftime as well before going on her second half tear. Brown hit three of her seven shots from behind the arc, and recorded five steals in the contest. Kari Reabold also broke into double-digits for the Nanooks, adding ten points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Falcons proved too deep, however, as they got 28 points from their bench compared to just 12 for Alaska. Kelsey Hill grabbed a double-double for Seattle Pacific (12 points, 10 rebounds) in just 18 minutes on the floor. Daesha Henderson had a team-high 13 points, four assists and four steals for the Falcons as well.
Seattle Pacific also enjoyed a significant advantage inside, scoring over half of their points (38) from in the paint, compared to just 20 for the Nanooks.
Alaska gets an immediate chance for redemption, however, as it hopes tonight's second-half surge can carry over to Saturday's game against Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho. Tip-off in that match is set for 7:00 p.m.
