FAIRBANKS, AK - Thirty-three of the Alaska Nanooks student-athleteswere named to the Spring 2007 Dean's and Chancellor's Honor Roll lists
announced Tuesday by the University
of Alaska Fairbanks.
"Our coaching staff has done a
tremendous job over the past two years of keeping student-athletes focused on
academics," said UAF Director of Athletics Forrest Karr. "Though athletic
accomplishments seem to garner the most ink, we should focus on the educational
pursuits of our young men and women with equal enthusiasm."
Fourteen
of the Nanooks were represented on the chancellor's list and the remaining 19
were named to the dean's list. Students
receiving all A's or a 4.0 grade point average are placed on the chancellor's
list, while those receiving an A- grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.99
are named to the dean's list.
After setting an outstanding department
standard in the fall of 2006 with an overall grade point average of 3.09, the
student-athletes set a department record in the spring, raising the mark by
almost two tenths (3.27).
The numbers are impressive considering
that on average the student-athletes completed an average of 14.17 credits in
the fall and 13.65 in the spring. In addition, almost 64 percent of
student-athletes had above a 3.00 GPA for the 2006-07 academic year.
