Buffalo, NY - Nanook freshman Kelly Becker (Tualatin, OR) cracked the top 10 in 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA Swimming Championships Friday at the Burt Flickinger Center. Becker's time of 2 minutes, 7.5 seconds was good enough to squeeze into tenth place, which makes her an honorable mention All-American pick.
Becker, the only Nanook swimmer to qualify for nationals, missed the top eight in the preliminaries by just 0.19, leaving her just short of the meet finals. That meant no matter how fast she swam her best possible finish was ninth heading into the consolation final. Becker finished just 0.21 seconds behind ninth-place finisher Laura Leix of Wayne State.
