Alaska Hockey Names Three Assistants To Captain T.J. Campbell

Oct. 31, 2007

FAIRBANKS, AK- Alaska Nanooks men's hockey captain T.J. Campbell will be aided by three assistants this season, as head coach Doc DelCastillo officially named senior goalie Wylie Rogers, senior forward Aaron Lee and junior defenseman Tyler Eckford as the Nanooks' assistant captains.

It is a first time honor for the trio that represents all facets of the team offensively and defensively. In Rogers' case, he becomes the first goalie in 17 years to don a letter on his sweater.

Rogers has been a mainstay for the Nanooks in his career, including backstopping them to a third-place finish in the CCHA Championships as a rookie (2004-05), and setting program records for saves percentage in a single season (2005-06) as well as career shutouts.

Lee has been a strong defensive forward, whose contributions to the team haven't always appeared on the scoresheet. He emerged as the team's top playoff scorer through three seasons, helping Alaska complete three postseason road sweeps. He has also developed a penchant for shot blocking.

Eckford is the team's top returning scorer from a year ago as well as the team's top returning defenseman. He has wasted little time continuing where he left off offensively, racking up three points in Alaska's season-opening series against Anchorage earlier this month.

The Nanooks open their Central Collegiate Hockey Association schedule this weekend when they host defending national champion Michigan State for a two-game series at the Carlson Center. First face-off both nights is at 7:05 p.m.
