FAIRBANKS, AK - Tanana Valley Television announced that its radio station, 96.9 KYSC FM, will air the Off the Ice radio show, a weekly feature dedicated exclusively to Alaska Nanooks hockey. The live show will be held at Boston's Gourmet Pizza, every Tuesday night from 7-8 p.m.
Bruce Cech, who begins his 20th season of broadcasting Alaska hockey, will emcee the hour-long program, and will be joined every week by the Nanooks' first-year head coach Doc DelCastillo for the first half-hour of the show. Together, they will offer an in-depth insight of the previous week's games, preview the upcoming series and discuss the `inside scoop' on Nanook hockey.
The second half-hour of Off the Ice will be dedicated to a special sports-reporter style feature called The Bear's Den. Cech will lead a roundtable discussion, as he is joined by local sports personalities CBS 13's Giacomo Accardo, the Fairbanks Daily News Miner's Danny Martin, and Nanook hockey radio analyst Erik Drygas. Each week will feature an additional guest reporter or hockey personality as well. The panel will discuss Nanook hockey and offer their opinions and analysis of the games and program. They will also answer fan and audience member's questions live, as well as via phone or via email.
"We're excited to offer Nanook fans the Off the Ice coaches show on our 96.9 KYSC FM station," says Tanana Valley TV and Radio's sports broadcast coordinator, Scott Roselius. "It's been long past due for a Nanook hockey coaches radio show and we are pleased to be able to make it happen this year. We are thankful to Boston's for stepping forward as the host site for the show."
The first Off the Ice show will air Tuesday, Oct. 16th, at 7:00 p.m. live from inside the sports bar area of Boston's on the Old Steese Highway. Fans are encouraged to attend and participate in the live show atmosphere to get the full preview of the 2007 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup and the Alaska Nanooks season-opening series at Alaska Anchorage on Oct. 19-20.
Following the show, DelCastillo and the rest of the Nanooks will head south to Anchorage, as they start the year with a non-conference series at the Sullivan Arena next weekend. Friday's tilt begins at 7:35 p.m., while Saturday's starts at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be aired locally on KFXF Fox 7 and statewide on GCI Cable Channel 1, as well as simulcast on the Fairbanks' radio waves of KSUA 91.5 FM and KYSC 96.9 FM.
The Nanooks are idle the following week as they begin to gear up for their Central Collegiate Hockey Association home opener against defending NCAA champion Michigan State on Nov. 2-3 at the Carlson Center.
