No. 18 CWU Tops Alaska In GNAC Home Opener

FAIRBANKS, AK - The Alaska Nanooks jumped out to a strong start in their Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener, taking the first game against visiting No. 18 Central Washington University, but the Wildcats rebounded to take the match 28-30, 30-13, 30-19, 30-25.

Junior co-captain Jenna Jones (Fairbanks, AK) led the Nanooks with 12 kills and 13 digs for her fourth career double-double and sophomore middle hitter Korlyn Bolster (Guerneville, CA) added 10 kills (.381 hitting percentage) and a match-high 7 blocks.

Alaska took the early lead in game one and was steady offensively outhitting CWU .245 to .192.

However, they were unable to maintain their offensive consistency as the Wildcats outhit the Nanooks in the final three games to take the match.

The Nanooks outblocked the Wildcats 9.0 to 4.0 but they also had 12 reception errors while CWU had just four.

Junior co-captain Jessica King (Hailey, ID) got a match-high 22 digs, while freshman setter Alexa Sherman (Calabasas, CA) and sophomore setter Sedra Zlock (Spanaway, WA) had 23 and 16 assists, respectively.

Central's Kristin Pasley led the match with 18 kills and 20 digs, Fairbanks native, Erica Stevens got a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, and setter Lindsey Dollente had a match-high 54 assists.

The Nanooks continue their GNAC schedule Saturday evening, when they host their third ranked opponent in the last five games, No. 18 Seattle Pacific University, at 7 p.m. AST at the Patty Center.
