Greentree Named MVP at Hockey's Awards Banquet

FAIRBANKS, AK - Sophomore forward Kyle Greentree (Victoria, BC/Victoria-BCHL), the University of Alaska Fairbanks hockey team's leading scorer for the second consecutive season, was recognized as such with the Keith Street Top Scorer award in addition to being named the Steve Moria Most Valuable Player at the annual end of the season awards banquet Saturday night at the Carlson Center. Greentree finished the 2005-06 season with eight goals and 19 assists good for 27 points to lead the Nanooks, who finished 18-16-5 and were just one game shy of making a repeat visit to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Championships. Junior forward and tri-captain Lucas Burnett (Rossland, BC/Trail-BCHL) was also a double award winner, being named the Rick Pitta Most Dedicated Player and Don Jamieson Unsung Hero. The Dirk Anderson Scholar-Athlete was sophomore forward Ryan Muspratt (Calgary, AB/Camrose-AJHL) and freshman Brandon Cross (Kamloops, BC/Merrit-BCHL) was recognized as the Pumphouse Team Player. Sophomore defenseman T.J. Campbell (Ft. McMurray, AB/Ft. McMurray) received the Dean Fedorchuk Most Improved Player award and first-year goalie Chad Johnson (Calgary, AB/Brooks-AJHL) was named the Doug Desorcie Top Rookie. The Top Playoff Performer was sophomore netminder Wylie Rogers (Fairbanks, AK/Victoria-BCHL) and the Shawn Chambers Best Defense award went to junior tri-captain Jordan Hendry (Nokomis, SK/Battlefords-SJHL), who departed Fairbanks last month to pursue a pro career. Also missing from the banquet was the Nanooks lone senior, forward Kelly Czuy (Calgary, AB/Canmore-AJHL), who also left town in late March to continue his hockey career at the professional level.
