FAIRBANKS, AK - Lancaster Bible College jumped to an early lead but senior Jushay Rockett (Long Beach, CA) and the Alaska Nanooks went to work for a lopsided 125-61 win Friday night at the Patty Center. The Chargers led 4-0 just 45 seconds into the game before Rockett scored six points to key a 10-0 run over two and half minutes and stake the Alaska to a lead it would never give up.

Rockett, who scored 26 points in his debut, scored 26 of his 30 points in the first half and set for the majority of the second half. Freshman Tyrome Flowers (Tacoma, WA) came off the bench with 20 points including five three-pointers for the Nanooks (2-0 overall, 0-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference).

Barry Barnes, Jr (Long Beach, CA) ran the Nanooks offense with élan to capture Toyota Player of the Game honors. The junior point guard piled up 10 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists despite joining Rockett and the other Alaska starters on the bench in the second frame.

All 11 Nanooks scored including six in double figures. Alaska shot 54 percent from the field including 42 percent (11 of 26) on threes. The home team struggled from the line though, making just 64 percent (28 of 44) of their attempts.

After allowing the Chargers to shoot 50 percent in the first half, the Nanooks defense got stingy in the second. Over the final 20 minutes, Lancaster shot just 6 of 21 and turned the ball over 17 times playing largely against the Alaska reserves.

Alaska again out-rebounded the smaller Chargers, enjoying a 55-25 advantage on the glass for the game. The Nanooks grabbed a whopping 28 offensive boards, which they transformed into 25 second chance points. Alaska outscored Lancaster, whose tallest player stands 6-3, by 38 points in the paint.

Tim Feliciano topped Lancaster with 19 points, while Carl Edwards and Wid Lyman chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.

The Nanooks now leave the cold of Fairbanks and depart for the warm climes of Florida. Alaska will face stiff competition at Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic in Orlando Nov. 10-12. The Nanooks will battle Pace University, North Georgia and Southern Indiana on consecutive days in the Classic, a prestigious DII tournament.
