Great Northwest Team Takes First at IBEW UAF Scholarship Golf Scramble FAIRBANKS, AK-The Great Northwest team took first place Friday in one the most important fund-raising events of the year for the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Department of Athletics. The team that included Bill Renfrew, Ron Keel, Tom Minder, Gary Tucker and Jim Barclay shot an overall score of 53.89 to finish first at the 21st annual International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Nanook Scholarship Golf Scramble at the Chena Bend Golf Course at Fort Wainwright. They received the first place awards. The tournament, which is sponsored by the IBEW's Local 1547, is the major fund-raising event for Nanook athletic scholarships. The team representing Denali State Bank was second with a score of 55.58. The team included Jerry Walker, Mike Smith, Peter Kelly, John Bast and Steve Thompson. Third was a team from Fairbanks Title, with a score of 57.7. Golfers were Mark Tomlinson, Todd Henderson, Wayne Sawchuk, Tavis MacMillan and Randy Pommenville. Finishing fourth was a team from Seekins Ford, with a score of 55.97. That group included George Roderick, Ralph Seekins, John Lohrke, Dennis Forslund and Joan Roderick. In fifth were the Nanooks, with a score of 56.12. Members included Dave Weaver, Leland Rich, Jeff Mattox and Ben Tupuala. In sixth place was Fullford Electric, with a score of 56.88. That team was composed of Jim Fullford, Mike Fullford, Kelly Richards, Bill Johnson and Phil Poythress. In seventh place was Key Bank at 57.14. Members were Frank Ostanik, Keith Bartusch, Joy Morrison and Lynne Andrew. Eighth were the Athletic Supporters at 59.47, with Dick Morris, Matt Taylor, Chuck Alkire, Kevin Huddy and Robert Carter. Ninth was the IBEW #1 squad, at 59.9 that included Dwayne Armstrong, Guy Von Bergen, Jim Cheney, Doug McLean, and Gary McLean. Tenth was Younker-Keyes and Associates at 61.6, with Chris Keyes, Phil Younker, Senior, Pam Younker, Laurie Keyes and Phil Younker, Junior. Finishing 11th was IBEW #2, at 61.7, with Nick Morris, Tim Brannan, Greg Ohart, Randy Achman and Todd Morgan. In 12th place was Team Buster, at 62.64, with Craig Salisbury, Barbara Salisbury, Greg Culbert, Tim Cline and Jared Sylvestre. And finishing 13th was Ivory Jack's, at 66.07, including Peter Simpson, Dan Chagnon, Mary Richards, Jeremy Bahr and Brian Collyard. The longest drive awards for the longest drive on the 12th hole went to Tavis MacMillan and Lynne Andrew, while the awards for finishing closest to the pin on the second hole went to Ralph Seekins and Joan Roderick.
