Beyerle Named 2nd Team Academic All-District

Jamie Beyerle Named Second Team Academic All-District VIII At-Large GETTYSBURG, PA-Junior Jamie Beyerle (Lebanon, PA) of the University of Alaska Fairbanks' rifle team has received a prestigious honor. Beyerle has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII At-Large Second Team. The team is chosen in a vote of Sports Information Directors across the district. As a member of the District VIII Second Team, Beyerle was one of 10 student-athletes selected, and one of 21 honored overall. Beyerle has a 3.79 grade point average in Psychology. "Jamie is a performance-oriented person in every way, academically as well as athletically," said UAF Head Coach Glenn Dubis. "It does not surprise me when she earns academic awards. We're all very proud and happy for her." "We're very proud of Jamie," said UAF Director of Athletics Dr. Cory Schwartz. "It's a very special honor for her, as she has put in the time academically as well as athletically. It's great to see her rewarded for her hard work." Beyerle finished second overall in small bore competition at the 2005 NCAA Rifle Championships, losing a one-shot playoff for the individual championship. She finished sixth in the air rifle competition at the NCAA Championships and named first team All-American in both small bore and in air rifle. The NCAA air rifle champion as a freshman, Beyerle was named first team All-American in small bore and in air rifle, as she helped lead the Nanooks to their fifth consecutive NCAA championship. This spring, Beyerle participated in the Nanook Walk for student-athletes at UAF with grade point averages of 3.0 or better, and was a member of the Athletic Director's Top 30, which includes the top 30 student-athletes at UAF in terms of grade-point average. -UAF RIFLE-
