Oleson Named NABC All-American, First Team All-District
KANSAS CITY, MO-For the second day in a row, senior guard Brad Oleson (North Pole, AK/North Pole HS/Peninsula College) of the University of Alaska Fairbanks men's basketball team has received a very prestigious honor.
Oleson, who was named a first team All-American by Daktronics yesterday, has been named both an All-American and first team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The team is chosen by a vote of basketball coaches across the nation.
The leading scorer in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this season, Oleson was named GNAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season this year. UAF's all-time leader with 1884 points, 229 three-point field goals and 209 steals, Oleson is the all-time leader in GNAC in steals; the first GNAC player to have four consecutive 30-point games and the all-time leader with nine GNAC Player of the Week awards. The Most Valuable Player at the James Debeni Classic and the Most Outstanding Player at the Glacier Classic; Oleson ranks fifth nationally in scoring entering this week's Elite Eight at 24.4 points per game; fifth in three-point field goal percentage at 48 per cent; ninth in free throw percentage at 87.2 per cent; 27th in field goal percentage at 59.4 per cent; and ranks 22nd in three-point field goals per game at 3.1 per game.
The Nanooks finished the season with a record of 21-9, and reached the finals of the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament for the second consecutive season. UAF, which was 4-23 the year before Oleson joined the team, was 64-24 during Oleson's three seasons with the Nanooks. The three years marked the first team in school history that UAF won 20 games three years in a row, and Head Coach Frank Ostanik was the first Nanook head men's basketball coach to win 20 games in his first year.
