Havlova Finishes 8th, Women's Team 18th Overall at NCAA Div. II West Region Cross Country Championships

CHINO, CA - University of Alaska Fairbanks senior Pavla Havlova (Jince, Czech Republic) finished in eighth place with a time of 22:31.00 at the 2005 NCAA Div. II West Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday and was named to the All-Region team. The women's team finished 18th overall on the 6K course at Prado Park. Havlova, UAF's first ever individual champion at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, also gave the Nanooks their best ever finish at the region championships. Freshman Julia Coulter (Traverse City, MI) was the second Nanook to cross the tape, finishing the course in 25:29.20, good enough for 82nd place. Freshman Anna Coulter (Traverse City, MI) finished in 107th with a time of 25:57.40. Junior Krynn Finstad (Fairbanks, AK) was 125th (26:46.60), and Sophomore Virginia Parrish (Fairbanks, AK) was 140th (28.28.20). Miriam Hodgins of UC San Diego was the race winner (21.58.80) to lead her team to a second place finish with 62 points. Chico State won the team title with 42 points, backed by second and third place finishes by Katie Lee (22:01.90) and Jennifer James (22:19.40), respectively. The top 15 finishers received All-Region honors. The NCAA West Region Championships was the final meet of the season for the UAF cross country team.
