FAIRBANKS, AK - University of Alaska Fairbanks senior
Andrew Smith (Anchorage, AK/Bartlett HS) received two post-week honors for his performance in the 2005 BP Top of the World Classic. Smith was named to the 2005 TOWC All-Tournament team and received Honorable Mention in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards.
One of the three senior Nanook tri-captains, Smith led the UAF men's basketball team to a fourth place finish in the 2005 classic, netting 39 points and collecting 25 rebounds in three games played.
After registering 10 points and just one rebound in the opening game of the tournament against San Diego State, Smith responded with back-to-back games with 12 rebounds in victories over Division I Montana State and Kennesaw State. His 12 rebounds set a new career high for the 6-foot-8 forward.
The Nanooks return to the court on Friday, Dec. 2 when they host Life Pacific College in the first of two games at the Patty Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. (AST).
