FAIRBANKS, AK - The University of Alaska Fairbanks rifle team continued its success on the road Monday afternoon with a victory over Murray State. The Nanooks outshot Murray State 4,721-4,648.
UAF dominated both disciplines posting scores of 2,352-2,320 in the smallbore and 2,369-2,328 in the air rifle.
The match marked the Nanooks fourth consecutive victory under first year head coach
Dan Jordan.
"Things went really well," said Jordan. "Everyone is starting to settle in for the year and figuring out how to perform when they need to."
UAF was led in both the smallbore and air-rifle portions of the match by junior All-American
Matt Rawlings (Wharton, TX) and senior All-American
Jamie Beyerle (Lebanon, PA). Rawlings led all shooters with a 596 and a 598 in the respective shooting events, and Beyerle scored second best in the match with 586 and 593, respectively.
Freshman
Levi Geurts (Buffalo, ND) tied Beyerle in the air rifle with a 586, and fellow freshman
Christian Lejon (Umea, Sweden) trailed Geurts by two points with 584.
Rookie
Matthias Dierolf (Uttenhofen, Germany) also had a strong match posting a 590 in the smallbore, and Lejon was fourth-best with 588.
The Nanooks continue on the road as they face Tennesee Martin and close out the first half of their season. Following the match with Tennessee Martin, UAF's next competition will be January 14, 2006 when they will go head-to-head against West Virginia University in Morgantown West Virginia.
