Oleson GNAC Co-Player of the Week, All-Time POW Leader
SPOKANE, WA-For the third time this season, senior guard Brad Oleson (North Pole, AK/North Pole HS/Peninsula College) of the University of Alaska Fairbanks' men's basketball team has been honored by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Oleson was named Co-Player of the Week in the GNAC. He shares the honor with Seattle guard Bim Makinde.
Oleson scored a career-high 39 points to lead the Nanooks to a 91-80 victory against archrival Alaska Anchorage at the Patty Center Thursday evening. His total also represented the single-game high for a GNAC player this year. He connected on eight of 11 three-point field goals, 10 of 15 from the field overall, and made 11 of 13 free throws. Olesen also led UAF with nine rebounds, and added three assists and two steals. He now has 197 steals, which is six short of the GNAC record.
The POW award is the eighth for Olesen during his three-year Alaska Fairbanks career. He is the all-time leader in that category.
"It's quite an accomplishment for Brad to be the all-time leader in Player of the Week awards," said UAF Head Coach Frank Ostanik. "It's a tribute not only to how well he's played this season, but to how well he's played during his entire career."
The Nanooks will return to action when they host Northwest Nazarene and Seattle this week.
