Nanooks Take Cup!

The sellout crowd at the Carlson Center was given a show on "Senior Night" as the three seniors said farewell to Fairbanks in the best way possible, by winning the Governor's Cup over in-state rival University of Alaska Anchorage by the score of 5-0. Fairbanks took the series 3-1-0 this year to even up the overall series at 5 years each. The first period saw few good scoring opportunities, however with only 27 seconds remaining in the period, UAF's Cory Rask lit the lamp for the first goal of the night off of a pass from Ryan Lang and Tom Herman. The second period gave the fans more to cheer about as Rask scored his second of the night when Herman took a pass from Jordan Hendry and flicked it to Rask who put it in the back of the net at the 9:53 mark. at 11:38 in the second, Cam Keith got a pass from Paul Austin and scored his seventh goal of the year to end the second period scoring. In the third period Scott Vockeroth found the net after Austin and Alex Staudt traded passes, the goal came at the 15:36 mark. Jason Grinevitch scored the last goal of regular season when he took a pass from Ryan Campbell and Jared Sylvestre at the 18:22 mark to make it a 5-0 game. All three UAF goalies had wins over Anchorage this year, Preston McKay shut out UAA in Anchorage last October 4-0, Keith Bartusch got the win yesterday and tonight Senior Goalie Lance Mayes completed the shutout for his last game in Fairbanks. UAF will travel to East Lancing to play Michigan State in the first round of the CCHA playoffs next weekend.
