After skating to a 2-2 after forty minutes of hockey, the Nanook team suffered what could be considered a mental breakdown as Colorado College scored four unanswered goals in the third period on their way to handing the Nanooks a 6-2 loss.
The Nanooks trailed after the first period 1-0 on a goal from Colin Stuart with just eight seconds remaining in the period. The highlight of the first period, however, was goalie Keith Bartusch's great save on a penalty shot that was awarded to the Tigers after UAF defenseman Cramer Hickey dove at Joey Crabb's feet who was on a breakaway towards Bartusch.
The team came out of the locker room fired up for the second period.
Corbin Schmidt scored his first goal of the season on the power play just a 2:49 into the second. CC answered back with a goal from Andrew Canzanello. UAF decided to take things into their own hands when senior Tom Herman scored a short-handed goal on a pass from Cory Rask from behind the opposing net. Rask chased the puck all the way around the net and passed it right to the tape of Herman who was standing alone in front of goalie Curtis McElhinney.
Going into the third period tied 2-2 things looked promising for the Nanook squad. After giving up a goal just over three minutes into the period, UAF could not get another score on the board. The Tigers scored three more goals including a short-handed goal and a power-play goal to finish the Nanooks off.
Even though the Nanooks lost the game, they outshot the Tigers 27-22, including a 14-6 margin in the second period.
