Rifle Team Sinks Navy

The UAF rifle team sailed easily to another victory today against the U.S. Naval Academy shooters. Following the course they charted at the beginning of the season, the Nanooks put together an impressive performance that illustrated the depth and talent of this championship team. Matt Emmons led the pack by a wide margin in small bore, turning in an 1188 that outstripped his nearest competitor, Jamie Beyerle, by seven points. Karl Olsson shot an 1180 that, together with Per Sandberg's 1179, put the Nanook team total a lofty 132 points above Navy showing, 4728-4596. (Navy's individual scores were 1121, 1147, 1158 and 1170, names not available). The Nanooks gave each other the fiercest competition in air rifle. Jamie Beyerle was uncharacteristically off her mark with a 390, which was still 3 points higher than Navy's best scores. Sophomores Erin Skeuse and Matt Wallace each vied for the second-highest score of 393, bested by only one point from Emmons at 394. The team total put UAF over Navy, 1570-1546 (386,386,387,387). The Nanooks go up against the U.S. Military Academy Sunday.
