The UAF volleyball team is on a roll on the road, now 5-0 this season for their out-of-town play.
The women played Central Washington University Friday night for a full five games (25-30, 15-30, 30-21, 30-26, 15-13). They dropped the first two to Central, but their shaky second game was the last unease of the night. They came back decisively in the third round for a nine-point lead over their opponents, and they stayed ahead to win 3-2.
Angel Fairbanks and Tara Hollenbeck dominated the court with 20 kills for Fairbanks and 17 for Hollenbeck. Jamie Schanback led digs with 14, followed by Caitlin Kennedy with 13. Candice Smith and Carlin Smith were major forces on the net, Candice putting up seven block assists and Carlin with six.
UAF met victory again Saturday night against St. Martin's College. The Nanooks again lost the first two games before rallying to win 3-2 (26-30, 26-30, 30-26, 30-18, 16-14). Angel Fairbanks slammed down 25 kills; Jamie Schanback had 17 kills and 20 digs. Jen Medl had an outstanding 62 sets, 11 digs, and four block assists.
Monday night UAF will play against Seattle University before returning home for a showdown with UAA at 7pm on Thursday, October 11.
