UAF takes WMU into OT

The Nanooks take it to the last seconds as they go into overtime ending in a 2-2 tie with Western Michigan. The Bronco's started off strong in the first period when Dave Cousineau scored a power play goal, his eighth of the season, at 3:59. Mike Bishai and Dana Lattery each added an assist as the Bronco's end the first with a 1-0 lead. UAF answered back at 12:17 in the second period when Ryan Campbell parked in front of the net to put the Nooks on the board. Felipe Larranaga and Tom Herman assisted Campbell, ending the second with a 1-1 tie. Shortly into the third period, Rob Yamashita lit the lamp at 3:53 with assists by Ryan Crane and Chad Kline. With only 1:03 left in the game the Nooks opted for an empty net to add an extra man to put pressure on the Bronco's defense. The 6 to 5 man match up resulted with a goal by Bobby Andrews, his seventh of the season, assisted by Cam Keith and Ryan Campbell, ending the third period in a 2-2 tie, sending the game into overtime. UAF dominated overtime with 6 shots on goal to WMU's 3. The Nooks came out fired up and ready to win, but the Bronco's defense held strong. WMU's goalie, Jeff Reynaert made 40 saves on the night which prevented the Nooks from scoring a winning goal. The Perani Three Stars of the night included Reynaert as the second star, and UAF's Bobby Andrews as the first and Ryan Campbell as the third. The Nooks now stand at 13-8-2 overall and 9-8-2 in CCHA play. UAF is now tied for third place with Ohio State. The Nooks and the Bronco's meet again at the Carlson Saturday at 7:00 pm.
