FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Tuesday, the Alaska Nanooks student-athletes vowed to stand together and speak out against sexual assault. The student-athletes have come together to take a pledge through the It's On Us campaign to end sexual assault.
The UAF campaign features student-athletes from each of Alaska's 10 varsity sports and was organized by Alaska Nanooks cross country runner and Nordic skier
Sarissa Lammers, who serves on the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Started in 2014, It's On Us is a national campaign to end sexual assault through the creation of local and nationwide awareness and engagement on sexual violence. The campaign offers to pledge to "commit to helping create a culture of consent, bystander intervention and survivor support" as it relates to sexual assault, per the official It's On Us website.
Student-Athlete Advisory Committees in collegiate athletics departments all across the U.S. are taking part in the It's On Us campaign, as the Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is observed in April.
