Each Friday, the Alaska Nanooks will be publishing blog posts from one or more newcomers from each of Alaska's 10 varsity sports throughout the preseason. More sports will join the blog once their first official day of practice begins.

"Hello dedicated Nanook fans, who wants to go to the beach!? We do too, but Coach says not until Monday. Em and
Markie are back again, but writing from a different location than usual. We are reporting to you live from Dad's Dream in Virginia Beach. We are here to stick it to some teams in two tournaments. The first is here in Virginia Beach and then the Nooks will roll to San Francisco. To recap last week's Alumni game, we won. Shoutout to the Alum and the fans for a fun, competitive night on the court.
Tuesday started early because we woke up to obliterate our usual weights workout. We then went to our classes because we are diligent student-athletes and Tuesday night we took off to Virginia. It was a long, fun day of flights and driving. After a long trip with the macho Nanook men driving the minivans, we arrives at Dad's Dream. We all decided to relax in the pool but found some questionable creatures swimming with us. It ended up being a quick dip. The time change left everyone starving. The captains braved the walk downstairs to ask coach if they could take us on a late-night grocery run. He approved our request and off they went in the minivan for food. Those of us who waited back at Dad's Dream thought it would be a quick trip for food, but it ended up with everyone going to bed. An hour and a half later, we heard the door open and grocery bags were coming up the stairs. We flooded out of our rooms like a river. Food was everywhere and everyone was ecstatic about the amount of string cheese that was laid on the counter. Everyone went to bed fuller than they should have been.
Thursday started 'early' at 9:00 a.m. (but 5:00 a.m. AKT) to be exact. We had a great breakfast made by Coach Scott then we spend the rest of the late morning until practice doing homework and studying. After lunch, we headed to Tidewater Volleyball Association for practice. We were excited to get back on the court after the long travel day and were excited to be out of the heat. Silly us, thinking anything indoors while it is 90 degrees and humid outside would feel nice but on the contrary, the gym was hotter than it was outside. We all left the gym looking like we had just jumped into the ocean… but as we said before, that can't happen until Monday.
The Nooks are now instructed by Coach to lay their heads on their pillows for a good night's sleep in preparation for game day. Peace out fans, the Nooks will keep on rollin' in the morning.
Tune in next week as we write from San Fran!
XOXO,
Em&M"
