Each Friday, the Alaska Nanooks will be publishing blog posts from one or more newcomers from each of Alaska's 10 varsity sports throughout the preseason until their first official contest. More sports will join the blog once their first official day of practice begins.
Volleyball
By: Markie Miller (R-Fr. | OH | Brewster, Wash.) & Emily Moorhead (Fr. | MB/OH | Chugiak, Alaska)
"On Sunday, August 13th, 2017, the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanook volleyball team laid their heads on their pillows, knowing that the next morning they would embark on a journey that would change their lives forever. It all started Monday morning at 6:00 a.m. weights. We all snickered with confidence looking at the workout our assistant coach Robbie Berrett had posted. We were ready to obliterate that front squat max, as we do every time we are in the weight room. Little did the Nanooks know, that on that Monday morning, we (Emily Moorhead and Markie Miller) would be the funniest pair they would ever meet and we were going to change the teams' morale

Team chemistry is the secret ingredient to success (also not a secret anymore). Luckily, our team has a harmonious friendship. We get along so well that our team colors might as well be brown and purple because we go together like peanut butter and jelly. Speaking of food, our boosters and alumni have been so generous, feeding us five star meals on the daily. We gratefully accept these meals, as they are helping us reach our goals while we strive for excellence.
So far, this week has been full of hard work, blood, sweat and tears (HOORAH), good food, laughs and new friendships that will last a lifetime. The outlook on this season is promising, so we encourage that you stay tuned for more from Em & M about the Nanook grind.
Tune in next Friday for more of your favorite Nanooks!
XOXO,
Em&M"
