2017 Alaska Volleyball Schedule
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The 2017 Alaska Nanook volleyball season will unofficially begin this Saturday, Aug. 19 with their annual Blue vs. Gold match, where the team will be split into two teams and battle for intrasquad supremacy. The scrimmage will be one of two exhibition games for the Nanooks, as the team will face some Alaska Alumni on Saturday, Aug. 26. Both matches are set for a 7 p.m. start time at the Alaska Airlines Court at the Patty Center and is free to the public.
Head coach
Brian Scott and assistant coach Robbie Berrett return for their third season with the Nanooks, after the team posted a 3-24 overall mark in the 2016 season with two of their three wins being in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
Despite losing senior libero
Meagan Olsen to graduation, Olsen will return to the Nanook ranks this season, serving as the team's volunteer assistant coach.
Alaska returns seven players from last year's roster, including senior setter
Rachel Nichols, who averaged 9.47 assists per set and posted a career- and season-best 65 assist night on Sept. 15 vs. Seattle Pacific. Nichols was one of four Nanooks who played in each of Alaska's 100 sets in 2016, as well as Olsen, senior
Riley Podowicz and sophomore
Kim Wong.
Please note the Blue vs. Gold game and the Alumni game will not be streamed on alaskananooks.com.
