PORTLAND, Ore. – On Monday, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced that Alaska Nanooks women's basketball senior guard Cassi Williams was named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week. It is Williams' first conference honor of her career and the first recognition for the women's basketball team under first-year head coach Brett Sawyer.

Williams earns the GNAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week selection after a record-setting performance in Saturday's nonconference victory over Multnomah University at the Alaska Airlines Court. In the 90-42 rout, Williams scored a career-best 29 points by setting a new program record by connecting on nine three-point field goals in a single contest. Prior to Williams, the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball record for most three-pointers in a game was seven, held by Amy Woodruff during the 2000-01 season. Williams shot 10-for-14 from the field, with all but one of her shots coming from behind the arc.

The Klawock, Alaska native also chipped in four rebounds in 24 minutes on the court on Saturday. After sitting out the 2016-17 season, Williams has played a total of 46 minutes over five games before Saturday's breakout performance.

At the time of article, Williams now sits tied for second in the GNAC's all-time records book with her nine three-pointers in a single game. In all of NCAA Division II women's basketball, only one other player has scored nine three-pointers in a game through the 2017-18 season, which ranks first in the nation.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will enjoy the holiday break before resuming GNAC play on Friday, Dec. 29, as they travel to Bellingham, Washington to take on the Western Washington Vikings at 6pm AKST.
