FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- On Tuesday, the Alaska Nanooks Athletic Department announced a save the date for Friday, June 3, 2016 for the inaugural Alaska Nanooks Scholarship Auction and Riverboat Cruise. The event will be held at the Riverboat Discovery in Fairbanks, and will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Alaska Nanooks Scholarship Auction and Riverboat Cruise is set up to help fundraise for the athletic scholarships the University gives to student-athletes. All supporters, both new and old, of the Alaska Nanooks Athletic Department are invited for a night out on the Chena River, as guests will be able to partake in both live and silent auctions, as well as a scholarship lot auction to help raise funds for scholarships. The price is set for $75 per ticket, and that includes price of the cruise, food, beer and wine. $15 of every ticket purchased will be donated to the Alaska Nanooks athletic scholarship fund. All net proceeds at the Alaska Nanooks Scholarship Auction and Riverboat Cruise will benefit student-athlete scholarships.
"We are very excited to kick off this new fundraising event devoted to student-athlete scholarships," said Director of Athletics Dr. Gary Gray. "Recruiting top-notch student-athletes and providing athletic scholarships is the lifeblood of any intercollegiate athletic program. We hope to make this an annual event and are very much looking forward to this first one. We welcome all Nanook fans, booster, alums, sponsors and friends of the Alaska Nanooks."
Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Riverboat Discovery II leaving the dock at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June, 3, for a three-hour tour. As the cruise travels down the Chena River, all in attendance will have a chance to bid on various items in both silent auction and live auction forms. Food will be provided by Chartwells, and the live entertainment for the night will feature DJ ATM, Jose Martinez.
